Parkinson's Disease

Three Classic Symptoms of PD

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a degenerative brain disorder that leads to the three classic symptoms: tremor, muscle stiffness and slowness of movement (bradykinesia)

Parkinson's symptoms usually begin gradually and get worse over time with common symptoms including:

  • Pain
    • Musculoskeletal (muscle) pain
    • Dystonia (involuntary muscle contractions)
    • Radicular (sharp shooting pains)
    • Central pain (stabbing, burning or bloating)
    • Dyskinetic pain (deep & aching)
  • Sleeping problems, leaving you feeling tired & drowsy
  • Mild memory problems such as forgetfulness, concentration and decision making
  • Depression

As the disease progresses, people may have difficulty with balance and coordination and with walking and talking.

Though there is currently no cure for PD, a number of treatment and therapy options are available to help people with the condition manage their symptoms. These options include medication, exercise, therapies (including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy), and the wearing of custom-made sensory dynamic compression garments. These garments, called Sensory Dynamic Orthosis (SDO®) manufactured by Jobskin®, can help to reduce tremor and improve coordination, and also help to recruit muscles for activity.
